Photographs from the TASS archive, MAMM and the Lumière Brothers Photography Centre — the images presented at the History of a Dream exhibition reflect the chronicle of VDNH, as seen by the best photographers of their time: Mark Grinberg, Naum Granovsky, Mikhail Trakhman, Vadim Kovrigin, and others. The modern stage of its history is captured in the photographs of prominent Russian photographers of our time: Mikhail Rozanov and Maxim Marmur.
VDNH, like the rest of the country, has lived through various stages in its history: the Great Patriotic War, its triumphant revival in 1954, the euphoria of the science and technology achievements, the 1960s reorganisation, the difficult Perestroika years, and the years after the collapse of the USSR.
2014 marked a new stage in the life of VDNH: historical pavilions undergo massive restoration works, infrastructure grows, the Exhibition hosts major city events, expositions and opens new spaces. This year, the Main Exhibition will be celebrating its 80th birthday.
For the first time, the exposition will include rare photos from the archives of the VDNH library showing the life and development of the Exhibition since the 1940s till now.
