International Chef's Day at VDNH

19 october 2021

International Chef's Day is observed on 20 October 2021. On this occasion, Russia's biggest aerospace museum, the Cosmonautics and Aviation Centre at VDNH, will be offering free Life in Orbit tours and the free lecture Space Nutrition.

At 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on 20 October, visitors to the Cosmonautics and Aviation Centre will be offered to join a free Life in Orbit tour. The tour guides will illuminate cosmonauts' life on orbit. Visitors will learn interesting facts about space nutrition and pretty much all other aspects of astronauts' life at the International Space Station. Visitors will be offered to take a look at space bread, tubed meals and so much more.

The number of participants is limited to 20 per tour. Visitors have to be 12 or older to attend. Pre-registration is required.

The free Space Nutrition lecture is scheduled at 7 p.m. on 20 October. The lecture will be given by Boris Palchitz, a Cosmonautics and Aviation Centre tour guide. He will explain about space food and how to prepare it: professional chefs take space food preparation very seriously and make an effort to select the best ingredients only for space travellers' fare. The conditions of weightlessness impose severe restrictions on food preparation and ingestion.

The audience for this lecture may not exceed 40. Visitors have to be 12 or older to attend. Pre-registration is required.

The Baskin Robbins café at VDNH will be offering 10% off on its menu to mark the occasion.

International Chef's Day was instituted in 2004 on the initiative of the World Association of Chefs' Societies (WACS). It is observed in more than 70 countries worldwide. This is the day when the profession of chef is celebrated with cookery competitions, samplings and experiments in the field of cuisine d'auteur. In some countries, chefs go to schools and kindergartens to teach children how to cook.

All events on VDNH grounds follow the applicable anti-coronavirus restrictions. Visitors at VDNH museums and exhibition spaces are expected to wear face masks and observe social distancing. Click here for more information about the anti-coronavirus measures at VDNH.
