Gostiny Dvor is hosting the denkmal Russia—Moscow international trade fair for cultural heritage conservation and restoration from 21 through 23 October. In the master class area, VDNH conservation artists will put up the large-size painting Dairy and Meat Farming in the USSR by Boris Shcherbakov, recovered during the restoration of Pavilion No. 1 Central.
Denkmal Russia—Moscow, or the 6th International Trade Fair for cultural heritage conservation, restoration, use, promotion, redevelopment and museum technology, is currently in progress at Gostiny Dvor, scheduled to run from 21 through 23 October. The event programme includes business meetings, seminars, workshops, a student research-to-practice conference and a competition of conservation artists.
VDNH has joined the large-scale show by giving it temporary custody rights over the painting Dairy and Meat Farming in the USSR, recovered during the restoration of Pavilion No. 1 Central. The painting is by Boris Shcherbakov, People's Artist of the USSR, Winner of Stalin Prize 3rd Degree.
The painting was created in 1958. It is painted in oil on canvas. The picture shows a herd of cows and bulls grazing by the riverside. The painting originally adorned one of the rooms in Pavilion No. 1 Central, but when the exposition was repurposed, it was moved to Pavilion No. 42. The painter was identified by his signature in the bottom right-hand corner of the canvas.
The painting Dairy and Meat Farming in the USSR will be restored in a series of public workshops arranged by the Department for External Economic and International Relations and Department for Cultural Heritage. The VDNH expo stand looks set to serve as an interactive demonstration ground, where conservation artists will be teaching different aspects of conservation and restoration on a daily basis.
This and other exhibits will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 21 through 23 October. Use this link to access a live webcast of the event. Later on, visitors will be able to see the restored painting in one of the VDNH pavilions.
The international denkmal Russia—Moscow trade fair has been held every other year since 2011. This year, the event will adhere to the COVID-free format. The show will bring together exhibitors from 58 regions of Russia, as well as participants from Germany, Mexico, Italy, Hungary, Malta, Turkey and other countries.
