22 october 2021

VDNH has prepared a series of special events to celebrate Armenian Writing Day on 24 October. The events include a themed show programme, a workshop in Armenian calligraphy and a pottery workshop.

The festival will take place in Pavilion No. 68 Armenia, and will start at 1 p.m. with a concert featuring dance and vocal collectives, folk singers and instrumentalists. Armenian language students from Moscow State Linguistic University and Moscow State University will perform Armenian classical songs in Armenian and Russian to the accompaniment of traditional Armenian instruments such as kamancheh, kanoon and duduk.

At 2:15 p.m., the roundtable titled From Alphabet to Book Printing will feature presentations by the known Armenia scholars, poets and translators, representing Armenian studies research centres and departments in the universities of Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Pyatigorsk. To register for the event, visit info@souzarmyan.ru, or call +7(495)681-15-01.

Visitors are also welcome to join the workshops in Armenian calligraphy and pottery. Attendance at the workshops is by prior registration: visitinfo@souzarmyan.ru, or call +7(495)681-15-01 to register. Visitors will be offered photo sessions wearing Armenian national attire: the taraz. Meanwhile, the younger visitors may prefer to spend time in the face painting area. An exhibition of Armenian alphabet letters will be held as part of the festival.

Armenian Writing Day celebrations will bring together the leaders and officials of government agencies, educational institutions, Armenian cultural bodies and cultural figures. Some of the guests of honour expected to attend are President of the Union of Armenians of Russia and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Ara Abramyan, Head of the Department of Ethnic Policy and Interregional Relations of Moscow Vitaly Suchkov, Armenia's Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Russia Vardan Toganyan, Chair of the Assembly of Peoples of Russia Svetlana Smirnova, First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs Konstantin Zatulin and others.
