Russia's bread professionals to gather at VDNH's Meeting of Traditions festival

15 november 2021

On 16 November, VDNH will host a festival dedicated to the Russian traditions of baking bread. Admission is free.

A 600-sq. metre tent located on the Industry Square will gather professional bakers from all over the country. They will talk about Russian bread traditions and share bread-making recipes from four sides of the world: in a Russian stove (West), in a tandoor (South), in a frying pan (East) and on skewers (North).

During the workshops, visitors will get acquainted with the entire bread-making cycle, from the starter to the finished product. You can also try out traditional crafts like weaving baskets, carving wooden utensils, making pots or weaving linen. Workshops will be held by famous bakers and craftsmen.

The festival will also feature a mobile Bread Museum. It's an exposition of 19th-century artefacts dedicated to the technology of bread-making on a peasant farm, from ploughing the field and sowing the grain to kneading and baking. Visitors will get to try it all out with the help of the tour guide.

The Meeting of Traditions festival will be accompanied by an interactive animation programme with folk games and activities. Folk singers and dancers will also perform at the festival.

During the festival, the Association of Bakers and Confectioners is set to announce the start of Artisan Bread Year in Russia.

Festival's opening hours: from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visitors will be asked to present a QR code received after the COVID-19 vaccination, a negative PCR test or a recent recovery. Children under the age of 14 can visit the festival with parents who hold a QR code. Children aged between 14 and 18 can visit the festival without a QR code or parents. Visitors are expected to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

Workshops are available upon prior registration.
