Guided tours for the Day of Cultural Heritage to be held at VDNH

15 april 2022

On April 17 and 18, 2022, the country's premier exhibition will host free themed tours to coincide with the Day of Cultural and Historic Heritage. Tours will be held at the Cosmonautics and Aviation Centre, the Slovo Slavonic Literature Center and the Central Alley of VDNH.

On Sunday, April 17, at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. the Cosmonautics and Aviation Centre will host tours dedicated to the history of one of VDNH's most iconic sites since its first opening in 1939 – the legendary Pavilion 34, Cosmos. Visitors will learn how the famous structure was built, when the glass dome and the grand entrance group appeared, as well as how the exposition within the walls has changed and what exhibits were displayed from the early days of the pavilion to the present day.

Pre-registration is required for the tour.

On the same day at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., you can join a tour at the Slavic Writing Center Slovo. This tour is dedicated primarily to Pavilion 58 Farming, where the exhibition is located. The guide will acquaint guests with changes in the appearance and names of the pavilion throughout VDNH's history. Participants of the tour will be able to study the architectural style, various decorations of the facade and interior of the building in detail and, of course, visit Slovo, the exposition of the Slavic Script Center, dedicated to the history, present and future of the Cyrillic alphabet.

Pre-registration is required for the tour.

On Monday, April 18, at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., there will be a tour of the Main Alley of the National Exhibition. In the company of a guide, visitors will be able to assess the results of the large-scale programme to renovate VDNH, as well as travel back in time, learning what the exhibition was like in different eras.

Tourists will be able to admire the architectural monuments – objects of cultural heritage of federal importance, as well as learn interesting facts about the pavilions of the former Soviet republics and other iconic sites. These include the legendary Friendship of Peoples and Stone Flower fountains, which were restored in 2019 for the first time in 65 years.

On the Square of Industry, visitors will be shown the Vostok launch vehicle model and Pavilion 34, Cosmos with the towering sculptures Tractor Driver and Mekhanizator, reminiscent of the original agricultural purpose of the Exhibition.

Meet your tour guide at the Information Centre, which is located in the left wing of VDNH's Main Entrance Arch. Pre-registration is required for the tour.
