Ski season starts at VDNH

3 january 2021

The main exhibition of the country invites everyone to try out its renovated ski tracks. Given favourable weather conditions, the ski season will last until mid-March.

The 5-kilometre ski trail is designed for cross-country skiing. The main portion of the route is the same as last year: it goes along the footpaths in the wooded part of the Ostankino Park. If good winter weather persists, we are planning to arrange a 500 metre-long track for all who want to practice the skating technique of cross-country skiing. In the western part of the park you will find a 500 metre-long track for children.

There are special information stands installed throughout the park to help you find your way around and familiarise yourself with the rules of skiing on the tracks. If you have your own skiing equipment, you can use the track for as long as you want. The track is lit during nighttime. If you do not have your own skiing equipment, there are two rental points: one near the free ice rink and one by the main entrance to the park, by 1-ya Ostankinskaya St. Rental prices start from 200 roubles. For more information, call +7 (925) 429-70-29.

Ski rentals are organised in compliance with the obligatory safety and preventative measures established by Rospotrebnadzor. All components of the equipment are cleaned and disinfected regularly. All skiers must maintain a social distance of 1.5—2m and wear masks and gloves indoors.

The tracks remain open contingent upon good weather. Safe skiing can be guaranteed only if the snow is consistently 20cm deep. The skiing season will last until mid-March, given favourable weather conditions.

The tradition of skiing at Ostankino Park arose in Soviet times, back when the park was named after Felix Dzerzhinsky. A ski centre was known to operate at the park, as one of the various winter activities available to visitors. In the 90s the organised tracks were replaced by spontaneous trails laid out each year by independent ski enthusiasts. During the Renaissance of the Exhibition in 2014 Ostankino Park was annexed to it and the tradition was revived. Since then VDNH workers regularly lay new tracks, arrange ski rental kiosks and help set up direction markers on the routes.
