Festival Triumph of Jazz at VDNH: Free Concert & Lecture at the House of Culture

2 march 2021

7 March at 6 p.m., as part of the 21st Igor Butman International Triumph of Jazz Festival, musician and composer Alex Rostotsky will discuss the fusion of jazz and ethnic music and present the Art Splash programme with his Jazz Bass Theatre band at VDNH's events hall at the House of Culture. Admission is free of charge, but advanced registration is required.

In the lead-up to International Women's Day, Alex Rostotsky—a famous jazz musician passionate about music from Africa, Japan, India and Russia—will speak to exhibition visitors about jazz and ethnic music. Rostotsky performs Indian pieces, Old Russian religious chants and samurai vibes with equal skill. Rostotsky knows the traditions of Russian choirs (having himself sung in a church choir), and he skillfully incorporates Slavic vocal melodies with jazz.

In the first act, the musician will tell about how his love of ethno jazz came about, play recordings from different times and display segments from documentaries and animated films.

In the second act, the Jazz Bass Theatre band—featuring Pavel Skornyakov on sax, Maxim Shibin on guitar, Petr Ivshin on drums, Tamara Zubova on live visuals and Rostotsky himself on bass—will perform the Art Splash programme.

Admission is free, but advanced registration is required. The events hall of House of Culture sits 200 persons.

For a second consecutive year, VDNH's House of Culture hosts the Triumph of Jazz Festival. In 2021, the leitmotif of the festival's educational activities focuses on blending jazz and other musical genres.
