Concerts at the Greenhouse of VDNH Pavilion No. 14: mantra music, classical masterpieces and rock hits

24 may 2021

Live music keeps coming to the Greenhouse of VDNH's historic Pavilion No. 14 Republic of Azerbaijan. This week, visitors to the popular VDNH site are in for a harp and violin rendition of timeless classics, some mantra music and designer rearrangements of the perennial rock favourites. All events are fully compliant with Rospotrebnadzor prescriptions.

Enchanting Sounds of the Harp is the title of the concert by Nadezhda Sergeyeva (harp) and David Ardukhanyan (violin) scheduled at 8 p.m. on 27 May. The concert will be played in two parts. In the first part, the virtuoso musicians will perform French classical masterpieces: Six épigraphes antiques, Dreams and In a Boat by Claude Debussy, and Fantaisie for Violin and Harp (op. 124) by Camille Saint-Saëns. The second part of the concert will feature Carnival of Venice for solo harp by Wilhelm Posse, Paganiniana (variations) for solo violin by Nathan Milstein and the pieces Bordel 1900, Café 1930 and Nightclub 1960 by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla.

Go Kirtan will be playing a chamber mantra concert in the Greenhouse at 8 p.m. on Saturday, 29 May. Go Kirtan are Russia's most famous exponents of the mantra music scene. The name implies concerted action (Go) and the signing of mantras (Kirtan), equaling the practice of collective meditation through the medium of mantra. Go Kirtan's musical performances, blending ancient mantras with smooth lounge, are audible proof of how relevant mantra music can be in today's world for seekers of harmony and tranquillity.

The Melodion Quartet, fronted by Natalia Tupikova-Moroz, will be playing their Rock on the Strings show for VDNH visitors at 8 p.m. on 30 May. Antonio Vivaldi and Metallica, Johann Sebastian Bach and Richie Blackmore... Rock hits and timeless classics may make unlikely bedfellows but the band's creative interpretation makes them stick. The quartet's classic line-up (two violins, alto and cello) will cast a contemporary light on well-anthologised classics. VDNH visitors better prepare to be wowed by this vibrant, intense performance blending classics and rock with inexhaustible drive and a positive message.

Seating is subject to social distancing prescriptions at the concerts in the Greenhouse of VDNH Pavilion No. 14. Occupancy is limited to 50% of room capacity on account of the current sanitary restrictions. All visitors are expected to wear face masks and gloves.
