VDNH to celebrate Day of War Veterans

On 2 July, VDNH will host a holiday programme dedicated to the Day of War Veterans and the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Moscow. Visitors will enjoy a concert from the Moscow Jazz Orchestra led by Igor Butman, an Honoured Artist of Russia, along with thematic workshops and immersive plays. All activities will comply with Rospotrebnadzor health and safety regulations.

Admittance to VDNH holiday festivities is free of charge, but advanced registration is required. The number of participants to each activity is limited. Events must comply with all Rospotrebnadzor health and safety regulations, including the disinfection of surfaces. Visitors are required to wear face masks and gloves and maintain social distancing.

All day on 2 July, 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the open area behind Pavilion No. 61 will host various thematic workshops for VDNH visitors. Participants will make a real glider and learn to launch it at the aeromodelling workshop. Additionally, at the Radio Communications Workshop, participants will learn the basics of radiowaves, how to assemble a radio and explore Morse code. Next, at the Cryptographer Workshop, participants will learn about coding, sending messages and ensuring data confidentiality, i.e., cryptology.

Moreover, visitors to the festivities will write a letter to the past: in the workshop Triangular Letters from the Front, participants will try their skills at calligraphy or simply draw a letter and learn to fold it into a triangle. At the Coinage Workshop, those willing can mint a commemorative coin under the guidance of experienced tutors.

Children 12 and under are allowed to participate in any workshop provided they are accompanied by an adult. Participation requires advanced registration.

At the same time, the Windows of Memory open-air venues will show immersive plays near the House of Culture and the Georgian Square. The performances, entitled Hospital, Post Office, Apartment, Editorial Office, are all dedicated to the Battle of Moscow. Visitors will watch thematic theatrical sketches and hear letters from the front read by actors. Advanced registration is required for event attendance.

An on the open veranda of the House of Culture, vocal choir workshops will be held for those wishing to learn wartime and postwar songs. Workshops run by professional hosts will start every hour from 12:00 p.m., with the last one commencing at 7:00 p.m. Click through on this linkto register.

To close out the day, a grand holiday concert will be held. At 7:00 p.m., the Green Theatre at VDNH will host a performance by the Moscow Jazz Orchestra led by Igor Butman, an Honoured Artist of Russia. Over the years, this musical group has proven itself to be one of the world's leading orchestras and demonstrated mastery of modern orchestral jazz. The number of seats available is limited to 500 to ensure social distancing. Participation requires advanced registraiton.
