VDNH prolongs guided street tours dedicated to works of sculptor Vera Mukhina

6 july 2021

At the request of numerous Muscovites, VDNH has decided to prolong through the end of July its free guided tour programme dedicated to the works of Vera Mukhina. These tours will be held twice a week on Monday and Thursday near the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman Pavilion upon advance registration and subject to all recommendations from Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for the Oversight of Customer Protection and Welfare).

For the first time in this season, on 1 July, VDNH held free guided tours dedicated to the life and works of Vera Mukhina to celebrate the 132nd anniversary of the sculptor's birth. VDNH received a warm response from participants and many requests to extend the project. Therefore, VDNH decided to continue these thematic guided tours through July.

One of Vera Mukhina's most important and renowned works is the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman sculpture. This monumental sculptural composition is the symbol not only of VDNH but the whole of Moscow as well. The monument was created for the Soviet pavilion at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937, where it won a gold medal. This work brought Mukhina international fame and official recognition in the USSR.

VDNH tour guides share with visitors the story behind the sculptural composition and how found itself at the exhibition. Visitors also learn about the creative world and biography of one of the USSR's most iconic sculptors.

Today, the pavilion of the same name is a popular public venue at VDNH. It hosts a museum, expositions and events as part of the educational programme Knowledge. VDNH. During summer, the pavilion's roof is transformed into a concert venue and observation deck where VDNH visitors have the rare opportunity to watch the sunset and take a closer look at Vera Mukhina's famous monument.

Evening guided tours start off near the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman Pavilion at 8:00 p.m.
