Lettering Course Starts at VDNH's Slovo Centre

10 august 2021

On 14 August, the Slovo Centre for Slavic Writing will launch a three-class lettering cycle. The participants will learn what lettering is and how it differs from calligraphy, as well as why modern designers rely on it so much. After the first class on 14 August, the next two classes will take place on Saturdays.

The cycle will start on 14 August with an introduction to lettering. The attendees will find out what tools professional calligraphers rely on when tracing special fonts and how lettering is used in real life; they will also get to practice with a brush pen, a modern brush-like lettering tool.

During the second class, on 21 August, the attendees will use a brush pen to trace letters and some simple sentences that will become the core of their future lettering composition.

The classes will culminate on 28 August, when the attendees will be invited to pick any phrase they like and turn it into a real work of art.

The classes are fee-based (RUB 500 for the whole cycle).

The event is fully compliant with all health and safety measures: visitors must observe social distancing rules and wear masks at all times. More information on anti-coronavirus measures at VDNH can be found here.

Members of the VDNH Friends loyalty programme will receive a discount on tickets for the Slovo Centre for Slavic Writing and other exhibition venues. For a full and regularly updated list of programme partner venues, see the programme page on the VDNH website.
