From September 16, 2016, to January 18, 2017, as part of a special project of the Second Street Art Biennale Artmossphere, Pavilion No. 64 "Optics" at VDNH will host an exhibition called "#project64: IN/DEPENDENCE". It will bring together the works of 14 leading Russian street artists, who present a criticism of our consumer society.
One of the flagship events of the Second Biennale, which continues to introduce the Muscovites to the brightest examples of street art, will be #project64: IN/DEPENDENCE, an exhibition held at the VDNH "Optics" Pavilion, and a joint statement of the Artmossphere Creative Union and Tele2 mobile network operator.
The visitors of VDNH will find themselves in a grotesque world of a supermarket, where a giant plastic bag by Andrey Kasay threatens with devourment, instead of the pleasure of satiety, and the works of Zooma, always built on an accurate technique, cast doubts on the popular saying that money doesn't smell. Slava Ptrk carves philosophical collage messages out of annoying advertising banners, while Yevgeny Zhelvakov mocks the logic of consumer consumption by offering the chance to buy happiness at a supermarket. Andrey Adno uses his key technique to create a multilayered ephemeral object – a labyrinth of the world behind the looking glass, which sends the viewer into a geometric progression of eternal echoes of one's own ego. The famous Russian author Anatoly Akue will present a sculpture and a graphic triptych, which reflects the paradoxes of the new information era and its influence on human communication.
#project64: IN/DEPENDENCE declares its independence from society and the corporations that sell us what we don't need, and from the consumer models of thinking and behaviour. The works of the leading Russian street artists will present the idea that every person has the right to freedom of choice – from major decisions to what kind of milk to buy.
According to organisers, visitors of the exhibition need to realise that in a world torn apart by modern global challenges, we must think and act differently by reflecting on the wisdom of our actions.
