On 6 March 2018, the 100-day mark until the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was celebrated at the Main Skating Rink in the Country. Approximately 6,000 volunteers from Moscow who will be involved in running the tournament attended the event.
Nikolay Gulyaev, head of the Moscow Department of Sport and Tourism, Aleksandra Aleksandrova, Head of the Public Relations Committee of Moscow, Yana Churikova, TV host and 2018 World Cup Ambassador, Maria Kiselyova, three-time Olympic champion and Moscow ambassador to the 2018 World Cup.
The celebration of 100 days to FIFA 2018 commenced with a flash mob organised by the volunteers. After the countdown to the first match of the upcoming tournament began, large-scale banners with the FIFA 2018 and Moscow volunteer group logos unfolded above the participants.
The athletic and entertainment programme included a concert, competitions on ice and prize raffles.
Event participants also had the chance to visit a VR cinema. With the help of special virtual reality glasses, the audience saw a series of panoramic clips about the 2018 World Cup stadiums, as well as panoramic films taken on board the International Space Station and in outer space, videos from airplane cockpits and clips about nature in Russia and extreme sports.
In addition, a number of contests have been held on the skating rink, one of the prizes for which was an official 2018 World Cup Adidas Telstar 18 football signed by the championship's ambassadors and ceremony participants.
During the event, a new ambassador of Moscow, host city of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, was announced. She is five-time Olympic champion, multiple World and European champion synchronised swimmer Svetlana Romashina. Nikolay Gulyaev presented Svetlana Romashina with a Host City Ambassador Certificate of Honour signed by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
The celebration was organised by the Moscow Department of Sport and Tourism, the Public Relations Committee of Moscow, and the Mosvolonter Resource Centre for the Development and Support of the Volunteer Movement.
